What is a riding stock, and do you need one?
A stock is the long, folded neck-tie worn with a tweed or wool jacket in traditional showing and hunting classes. It sits inside the collar, is pinned flat with a stock pin, and gives the tidy, high-necked line judges expect. When a show tie is the better call
Working hunter, pony club and many local classes accept a tie instead. What is the difference between a riding stock and a show tie?

Does a hat silk add any protection to a riding hat?
No. A hat silk is a fabric cover for appearance and for keeping the shell clean — it adds no impact protection and does not change your hat's safety rating. Always ride in a correctly fitted, current-standard riding hat, and replace it after any fall or significant knock. If you are unsure whether your hat is still fit to use, have it checked by a qualified retailer or your governing body's hat checker.
What is the cheapest way to smarten up a showing outfit?
Neat hair and correct neckwear do most of the work.
