Are Englander boots leather or synthetic?

Both, depending on the model. The Gaia jodhpur boots and Athena tall boots use a vegan synthetic leather with a leather-look finish: no breaking in, no conditioning, and a wipe with a damp cloth is the whole care routine. The Atlas uses an oiled wax leather upper with sealed internal waterproof construction, and the Hera is handcrafted from full-grain buffalo leather with sealed seams and a 100% waterproof build, a breathable mesh lining and a shock-absorbent slip-resistant sole.

What is the difference between the Gaia and the Gaia Zipped?

The upper, sole and internal metal shank support are the same on both, and so is the £29.95 price. The classic Gaia is a traditional pull-on with elasticated side gussets. The Gaia Zipped adds a genuine YKK centre-front zip behind a stitched storm flap, which suits riders with stiff hands, tighter ankles, or anyone who would rather step in and zip up than wrestle a boot on. Both are black, UK 4–8 and unisex: the classic Gaia is water-resistant up to its elasticated ankle, and the Gaia Zipped is water-resistant to the last stitch line.

Which Englander boots are actually waterproof?

The Atlas is fully waterproof — oiled wax leather over a sealed internal waterproof construction, with a YKK zip and storm flap. The Hera is built to be 100% waterproof through its leather and sealed seams. The Gaia boots are water-resistant rather than waterproof: fine for rain, splashes and wet grass, but not intended for standing in puddles. The Athena is a wipe-clean synthetic tall boot designed for riding, not for deep water or deep mud.

Do the tall and country boots come in wide calf?

Yes. Both the Athena tall boot and the Hera country boot are made in standard and wide calf. The Athena also has a stretch calf panel and a full-length rear zip, and the Hera adds an elasticated panel plus functional laces at the top of the boot for extra adjustment. If you are between calf fittings, get in touch and our team will help.

What is in the range for children?

Children's riding usually means fast growth and hard wear, so the kids' range is deliberately easy-care. The Gaia children's jodhpur boots (£26.95) and Athena children's tall boots (£44.95) both come in black, UK 11–13 and 1–3. For legwear, the Aiya riding tights are £24.95 in black or navy, with unicorn and rock-n-roll prints at £29.95. All three use a four-way-stretch nylon and spandex knit, a full-seat silicone grip in an octagon pattern, a 5 cm covered no-twist waistband, side pockets and smooth internal seams. Waists start at 20 inches and run to 26 inches in plain black and 28 inches in navy, unicorn and rock-n-roll.

How does Englander compare with the big brands?

Englander is designed and sold direct, which is where the price difference comes from. These are not competition leather boots and are not sold as such — they are well-made, easy-care boots for the riding most people actually do, with details you would not normally expect at this price, such as the metal shank support in the Gaia and the genuine YKK zips on the Gaia Zipped and Atlas. The Hera sits at the top of the range for riders who want real full-grain leather, and carries a 12-month fair-use warranty. You can see Englander alongside other brands in our jodhpur boots, children's riding boots and country boots collections.

Englander Equestrian FAQs

Where can I buy Englander Equestrian?

Englander Equestrian is the own brand of Just Horse Riders, designed and sold direct, so the range is only available here. That is also why the prices sit where they do — there is no middleman between the factory and your door.

How much do Englander riding boots cost?

Children's Gaia jodhpur boots are £26.95 and adults' are £29.95, including the zipped version. Children's Athena tall boots are £44.95 and adults' are £54.95. The Atlas waterproof zip-front boot is £59.95 and the Hera leather country boot is £89.95. Children's Aiya riding tights start at £24.95.

Are Englander boots vegan?

The Gaia jodhpur boots and Athena tall boots are made from vegan synthetic leather with no animal products in the upper. The Atlas uses oiled wax leather and the Hera uses full-grain buffalo leather, so those two are not vegan.

What sizes are available?

Adult boots are stocked in UK 4 to UK 8 (EU 37 to EU 42). Children's Gaia and Athena boots are stocked in UK 11, 12, 13, 1, 2 and 3. The Athena and Hera each come in standard and wide calf. Aiya riding tights run from a 20 inch to a 28 inch waist.

How do I look after synthetic riding boots?

Wipe them down with a damp cloth after riding, use mild soapy water for mud, and let them dry naturally away from radiators and other direct heat. No polish, wax or conditioner is needed. If the boot has a zip, brush grit off the teeth now and then to keep it running smoothly.

What if the fit is wrong?

Every Englander item is covered by our 90-day returns, so you can try them at home and send them back if they are not right. If you are unsure between two sizes or two calf fittings, get in touch and our team will help before you order.
