Jodhpur Boots
Jodhpur boots (also called paddock boots) are short, ankle-height riding boots — the everyday workhorse of riding footwear, worn with jodhpurs and often half chaps. Choose between leather (smart, wears in beautifully) and synthetic (lighter, easy-clean, great value), and between zip-front (quick on and off) and classic pull-on with elastic sides. Just Horse Riders stocks adult and children's jodhpur boots from brands including our own Englander Equestrian, Rhinegold, Brogini, Gallop and Hy, from around £14.

Choosing jodhpur boots
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Leather | Smart, breathable, moulds to your foot — needs occasional care |
| Synthetic | Lighter and easy-clean — wipe off the yard and go |
| Zip-front | Quick on and off — brilliant for kids and cold mornings |
| Pull-on (elastic sides) | Clean classic look, nothing to snag |
| Show styles | Patent and polished finishes for the ring |
How should jodhpur boots fit?
Take your normal shoe size in most brands — snug around the ankle with toes free, worn with riding socks. They should feel secure immediately; leather softens with wear but should never need "breaking in" through pain. Worn with half chaps, they give the support of a long boot with easier sizing.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between jodhpur boots and paddock boots?
Nothing — they're two names for the same short, ankle-height riding boot. "Paddock boot" is the more American term; in the UK we mostly say jodhpur boot.
Do you wear half chaps with jodhpur boots?
Very commonly, yes — half chaps add lower-leg support and stop stirrup leathers pinching, giving a long-boot feel at a much lower cost. Jodhpur boots also work fine on their own for everyday riding.
Are jodhpur boots true to size?
Most brands run true to your normal shoe size, worn with riding socks. They should be snug at the ankle with free toes from the first wear — sizing up for thick winter socks is the usual exception.
Leather or synthetic jodhpur boots?
Leather looks smarter, breathes and lasts with care; synthetic is lighter, cheaper and wipes clean — ideal for muddy yards and growing feet. Plenty of riders keep a synthetic pair for the yard and leather for lessons and shows.
