What is the difference between Pro Bamboo and Classic Horseware boots?
They do the same job in two different styles. The Pro Bamboo range covers brushing (£51.95), fetlock (£59.95), tendon (£77.95), overreach (£37.95) and stable boots (£79.95), so you can build a matching set across the whole leg from one range. The Classic range covers brushing (£51.95), fetlock (£69.95) and tendon boots (£85.95) and is the choice if you prefer a more traditional-looking boot. If you are starting from nothing, most people buy brushing boots first and add tendon and fetlock boots once they start jumping.
Do I need brushing boots and overreach boots?
They protect different things, so plenty of horses wear both. Brushing boots guard the inside of the leg where one foot clips the opposite limb. Overreach boots (sometimes called bell boots) sit over the hoof and protect the heel and coronet band when a hind foot catches a front one. If your farrier keeps mentioning pulled shoes or you see scuffs around the heels, overreach boots are the ones to add - the Horseware Pro Bamboo Overreach Boots start at £37.95 and the Horseware Overreach Boots at £39.95.
What about stable, travel and therapy boots?
These are the boots your horse wears when they are not being ridden. Horseware Pro Bamboo Stable Boots (£79.95) and the Horseware Stable Boot Ionic Liner (£59.95) are for standing in overnight. Horseware Signature Travel Boots (£103.95) come in Pony, Cob and Horse and cover the leg for the journey. For downtime, the Horseware Ionic Hock Boots - Set Of 2 (£51.95) and the LED red light therapy boots - Left Hock Boot £269.95, Right Hock Boot £269.95, or the Hock Boots Pair at £521.95 - are designed to support comfort and recovery routines. They are not a treatment and do not replace a vet: if your horse is lame, sore or swollen, speak to your vet first.
How do you size Horseware boots?
It varies by boot. The work boots in this collection - brushing, fetlock, tendon and overreach - run from Medium up to XX-Large depending on the model, and the Horseware Adagio Boots come in Small, Medium and Large. The Horseware Fly Boots - Set Of 2 and the Horseware Signature Travel Boots use Pony, Cob and Horse sizing instead, while the Horseware Newmarket Fly Boots run Small, Medium and Large. Measure your horse's cannon bone length and girth of the lower leg, then compare against the size chart on the individual product page, because a horse in a full-size rug is not automatically a Large in boots. If you are between sizes or unsure, get in touch and our team will help.
How should Horseware boots fit?
Snug enough that the boot cannot rotate or slip down while your horse works, but loose enough that you can slide a finger between the boot and the leg. Straps should sit flat and point backwards, away from the direction of travel. Check the leg after the first few rides - rubbing at the top or bottom edge usually means the boot is a size out rather than the wrong model.
Horseware boots: common questions
What size Horseware boots does my horse need?
Sizing depends on the boot. Work boots in the Horseware Pro Bamboo and Classic ranges are sold from Medium up to XX-Large depending on the model, and the Horseware Adagio Boots come in Small, Medium and Large. The Horseware Fly Boots - Set Of 2 and the Horseware Signature Travel Boots use Pony, Cob and Horse sizing, while the Horseware Newmarket Fly Boots run Small, Medium and Large. Measure the length of the cannon bone and the girth of the lower leg and check the chart on the product page. If you are between sizes, get in touch and our team will help.
What is the difference between Horseware Pro Bamboo and Classic boots?
Both protect the same areas, in two different styles. Pro Bamboo covers the widest spread in this collection - brushing (£51.95), fetlock (£59.95), tendon (£77.95), overreach (£37.95) and stable boots (£79.95) - so you can match a full set. The Classic range covers brushing (£51.95), fetlock (£69.95) and tendon boots (£85.95) in a more traditional look. Pick whichever style you prefer and stay consistent across the leg.
Do I need overreach boots as well as brushing boots?
They cover different injuries, so many horses wear both. Brushing boots protect the inside of the leg from strike injuries; overreach boots sit over the hoof and protect the heel and coronet band when a hind foot catches a front one. If your horse pulls shoes or has scuffing around the heels, add overreach boots - the Horseware Pro Bamboo Overreach Boots start at £37.95 and the Horseware Overreach Boots at £39.95.
Which Horseware boots are best for travelling?
The Horseware Signature Travel Boots, from £103.95, are the dedicated travel option here and come in Pony, Cob and Horse. They give padded, full-length cover for the journey. Work boots such as brushing or tendon boots are not designed to be left on for long periods in the lorry, so keep those for riding.
Do LED red light therapy boots replace veterinary treatment?
No. The Horseware LED Red Light Therapy Left Hock Boot and Right Hock Boot (£269.95 each, or £521.95 for the pair) and the Horseware Ionic Hock Boots - Set Of 2 (£51.95) are designed to support comfort and recovery routines around work. They are not a treatment for injury or disease. If your horse is lame, heat-filled, swollen or off-colour, speak to your vet first and use therapy boots only as your vet advises.
How do I wash Horseware boots?
Care varies by boot, so always follow the label on the pair you own. As a general rule, knock off dried mud with a brush, rinse or sponge with cool water and mild soap, then air dry away from direct heat - radiators and tumble dryers can distort padding and weaken the straps. Electronic therapy boots must never be submerged. If a care label is missing, get in touch and our team will help.
