Does my horse actually need a supplement?

If he eats the full recommended amount of a fortified hard feed, largely no — it's already added. What is the difference between a balancer and a supplement?

A balancer is a concentrated pelleted feed providing daily vitamins, minerals and quality protein in a small scoop; a supplement is a powder or liquid added to feed for a specific purpose. For gap-filling, they do a similar job — pick the format your horse eats happily.

Do horses need salt licks?

Yes — forage and most feeds are short of sodium, and a lick lets the horse self-regulate. Horses in sweaty work often need added electrolytes on top, especially in summer.
