Riders usually arrive here with one of three problems: boots that won't come off, boots that won't keep their shape, or feet that get cold and rubbed. Here is the quick chooser for the items in stock today.

Why do riding socks need to be different from ordinary socks?

A tall riding boot is deliberately close-fitting, so anything bunching inside it becomes a rub within a few miles. Technical riding socks are built tall enough to clear the top of the boot, thin enough through the foot that they don't change your boot fit, and shaped so seams sit away from the toes and heel. The knit is chosen to move sweat away from the skin rather than hold it, which is what keeps feet from going cold once you stop moving.

How do I choose a sock weight?

Work backwards from your boot, not from the weather. If your boots already fit snugly, a thin stretch sock keeps the fit unchanged and is the sensible year-round choice. If there is a little room in the calf and foot, a thicker four-season or winter weight adds insulation for cold yard mornings. Riders who hack in winter but compete in summer often keep one pair of each and swap as the ground changes.

What does a boot jack actually save you?

Mostly your boots and your back. Hauling a wet leather boot off by hand twists the ankle of the boot and stretches the zip, which is where most tall boots fail first. A jack holds the heel while you step out cleanly, so the boot comes off straight and you are not hopping around a muddy yard.

Do boot trees really make a difference?

Yes, and quickly. Leather sets in whatever shape it dries in. A boot left flopped on its side will crease permanently across the ankle and can crack along the fold. Boot trees hold the leg upright and the foot shaped while the boot dries, which keeps the line clean and the zip running straight.

How should I look after socks and boot bags?

Wash technical socks cool and inside out, and skip fabric conditioner, which coats the fibres and reduces how well they move moisture. Let them dry naturally rather than on a hot radiator. Boot bags and storage bags should be emptied and left open to air after a wet day, otherwise damp sits against the leather inside.

Premier Equine socks and accessories: your questions answered

Are Premier Equine riding socks true to size?

They are sized in broad adult and junior bands rather than exact shoe sizes, and the knit has plenty of stretch, so most riders find the standard band works. If you are between bands, or you are buying for a child whose feet are growing quickly, get in touch and our team will help you pick.

Will thicker socks stop my riding boots fitting?

They can. A thick winter sock adds real bulk through the foot and calf, so if your boots are already snug, going up a sock weight may make them uncomfortable. The safe approach is to try boots on wearing the socks you intend to ride in, and to keep a thinner pair for boots with no spare room.

Do the Premier Equine Boot Trees fit all tall boots?

They come as one size and are designed to spring outwards to hold the leg of a tall or dressage boot upright, so they suit the great majority of adult riding boots. Very short or very wide boots are the usual exceptions. If you are unsure whether they will suit your pair, get in touch and our team will help.

How do I stop my feet getting cold in winter riding boots?

Damp is usually the culprit rather than the cold itself. A technical sock that moves sweat away from the skin helps far more than simply adding a second pair, and doubling up often makes things worse by squeezing the foot and cutting circulation. Make sure the boot still has a little air space, and dry both boots and socks fully between rides.

Can I machine wash Premier Equine riding socks?

Yes. Wash them cool and inside out, avoid fabric conditioner and bleach, and dry them naturally rather than on direct heat. That keeps the stretch and the moisture-moving performance of the knit intact for far longer.

What if the sock size or colour I want is out of stock?

Sock lines rotate through the season, so sizes and colourways move in and out. Get in touch and our team will help you find the closest alternative in stock or let you know when the option you want is expected back.
