Junior Boots

Junior clothing, breeches, boots and competition wear that keeps up with them.

Premier Equine junior boots are riding boots made in children's and small adult sizes, with grippy soles and stirrup-friendly shaping so young riders stay secure in the saddle. Five styles are in stock right now, from £28.80 to £70.20: synthetic and leather paddock boots, a leather Chelsea boot, and a synthetic tall field boot, in junior sizes UK 12 and 13 through UK 1, 2 and 3.

  • Pull-on leather Chelsea: Premier Equine Torlano Junior Leather Chelsea Boot, £46.80, in brown or black.

Which Premier Equine junior boot should you choose?

All five in-stock boots do the same core job — a safe, supportive boot for riding — so the choice comes down to how your child rides, how fast they are growing, and whether you want leather or an easier-care synthetic. None of the five need lacing: the Virtus fastens with a YKK front zip, the Torlano and Rossago are Chelsea styles that pull on using elastic side panels, the Elnaro has a simplified enclosed front with an elasticated panel, and the Anima tall boot uses a YKK zip with elasticated laces. Use the table to narrow it down.

Should a young rider start with paddock boots or tall boots?

Short boots are the usual starting point. A paddock boot like the Virtus (from £45.00) or the Elnaro (£48.60) is easier to walk and muck out in, cheaper to replace as feet grow, and pairs with half chaps or gaiters when your child wants the look of a long boot. A Chelsea style such as the Torlano (£46.80) does the same job and pulls straight on via its elastic side panels and heel tab, which helps younger children get ready without help.

A tall boot makes more sense once riding is regular and shows or clinics are on the calendar. The Anima Junior Synthetic Field Tall Riding Boot (£70.20) gives that full-length line in one piece, so there is no chaps-and-boot combination to fasten before a class.

Leather or synthetic — which suits a growing child?

Leather boots (Virtus, Torlano, Elnaro) mould to the foot over time and tend to look smarter as they wear in, but they want a little care: brush off mud, let them dry away from direct heat, and feed the leather now and then. Synthetic boots (Rossago, Anima) wipe clean in seconds and shrug off wet yards, which suits a child who is going to outgrow them inside a season anyway.

If your child rides several times a week and you want the boots to last, leather is usually the better buy. If they are mid-growth-spurt or only ride at weekends, synthetic keeps the cost sensible.

How do you get the size right?

Junior sizing here runs UK 12 and 13 (children's) and then UK 1, 2 and 3. Measure your child's foot in the riding socks they will actually wear, in the afternoon when feet are at their largest, and compare against the sizes listed on the product page rather than guessing from their school shoes. Riding boots should hold the heel firmly with room to wiggle toes — a boot bought two sizes too big slides in the stirrup and is genuinely less safe than one that fits.

Premier Equine junior boots: your questions answered

What is the cheapest Premier Equine junior boot in stock?

The Premier Equine Rossago Junior Synthetic Chelsea Paddock Boot at £28.80 is the lowest-priced boot currently available in this collection, though only one size remains: UK 13 Junior in black. After that, the Premier Equine Virtus Junior Leather Paddock Boot starts at £45.00 with a much wider size run.

Which junior boots come in brown as well as black?

Two in-stock styles offer both colours: the Premier Equine Virtus Junior Leather Paddock Boot (from £45.00) and the Premier Equine Torlano Junior Leather Chelsea Boot (£46.80), both available in brown and black across UK 12, 13, 1, 2 and 3 Junior. The Elnaro, Anima and Rossago are in stock in black only.

Can junior paddock boots be worn with half chaps?

Yes. Short boots such as the Virtus, Elnaro and Torlano are commonly worn under half chaps or gaiters, which gives the appearance and lower-leg grip of a tall boot at a lower cost — and lets you replace just the boots when feet grow. If you would rather skip the two-piece approach, the Anima Junior tall boot at £70.20 covers the whole leg on its own.

Do junior riding boots need to be leather?

No. Synthetic boots such as the Rossago (£28.80) and the Anima (£70.20) are easier to clean and cope well with wet yards, which suits children who are growing quickly. Leather options like the Virtus, Torlano and Elnaro soften and shape to the foot over time and usually last longer with a bit of care, so they tend to be the better choice for a rider who is out several times a week.

What size should I buy if my child is between sizes?

Measure the foot in riding socks and check the sizes listed on the individual product page, as fit varies between styles. Avoid buying a size or two up to “grow into” — a loose boot moves in the stirrup and rubs. If you are stuck between two sizes, get in touch and our team will help you pick.

Are any styles in this collection out of stock?

Yes — of the eight Premier Equine junior boots listed here, the Volens Junior Synthetic Paddock Boot, the Bruno Junior Leather Paddock Boot and the Vinci Junior Waterproof Boot are all sold out at the moment. The Rossago, Virtus, Torlano, Elnaro and Anima are available, though not every size in every style. Get in touch and our team will help if you want to know when a style is expected back.
