Wide calf riding boots are long boots cut roomier around the lower leg, so they fasten comfortably without being a bigger foot size. "Wide" here means the calf, not the foot. We stock around 75 long boots with a wide or extra wide calf option, from Premier Equine, Shires Moretta, Toggi, Rhinegold, Brogini and Dublin.

How To Find Your Fit

  • Measure your calf: around the widest part, over the breeches you will ride in.
  • Check that boot's chart: every brand sizes differently, and a "wide" in one is not the same as a "wide" in another.
  • Pick your size option: choose the Wide or Extra Wide option from the sizes on the product page. Not every size comes in every width.

Wide Calf Boot FAQs

Does wide calf mean a wide foot?

No. On these boots "wide" describes the lower leg, while the foot follows your normal shoe size. Check the size notes on each product.

How do I measure my calf for riding boots?

Measure around the widest part of your calf over your riding breeches, then compare it with that boot's size chart. Brands differ, so don't rely on the size you take in another make.

Should long boots feel tight at first?

Leather boots usually feel snug at first and soften with wear. They should still fasten fully without strain, so if they won't close over your calf, try the wider option.
