Description

The Premier Equine Blue Sweet Iron Universal Bit with Brass Alloy Lozenge is a tom thumb style bit - a cross between an American gag and an elevator bit - available in three sizes: 4.5 Inch (114mm), 5 Inch (127mm), and 5.5 Inch (140mm).

  • Tom thumb bit: a cross between an American gag and an elevator bit
  • Offers more precision and control; popular for show jumping and cross country
  • Has a lifting effect in front which can assist the rider in helping to sit the horse back on its hocks, enabling tighter turns and more efficient jumping
  • Uplifting action combined with poll pressure can discourage horses from leaning on the bit
  • Can be used with one rein on either the snaffle ring or the lower ring, or alternatively with two reins for increased precision
  • Blue sweet iron oxidises easily, creating a warming sensation and a sweet taste in the horse's mouth, helping them to accept the bit
  • Please note that the blue colour will fade with use - this is normal
  • Measurements: A=15mm, B=125mm (as per size guide)
  • Sweet iron bits are ideal for sensitive horses or horses that need encouragement to mouth and accept the bit

Colour: Metal. Available sizes: 4.5 Inch (114mm), 5 Inch (127mm), 5.5 Inch (140mm).

Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the Premier Equine Blue Sweet Iron Universal Bit come in?
This bit is available in three sizes: 4.5 Inch (114mm), 5 Inch (127mm), and 5.5 Inch (140mm).
Why does the blue colour fade on this sweet iron bit?
The blue colour on sweet iron bits fades with use - this is completely normal. The blue coating is part of the sweet iron material, which oxidises over time to create a warming sensation and sweet taste that encourages the horse to accept the bit.
Can this universal bit be used with two reins?
Yes. It can be used with one rein on either the snaffle ring or the lower ring, or alternatively with two reins for increased precision.
What are the A and B measurements for this bit?
As per the Premier Equine size guide, the A measurement is 15mm and the B measurement is 125mm.
Is this bit suitable for sensitive horses?
Sweet iron bits are noted as ideal for sensitive horses or horses that need encouragement to mouth and accept the bit, as the material oxidises to produce a warm, sweet taste - unlike stainless steel, which is naturally colder.
