What we did: we tested boots from the batch for water ingress and water came through — enough that we can’t honestly call them waterproof.
What they are: a well-made oiled-leather yard boot — YKK zip, reinforced toe & heel, rubber sole — just not a dry-feet-in-a-downpour boot.
Buying with your eyes open: when you order these you’re buying a non-waterproof boot. We’ve made that as clear as we can so there are no surprises.

We originally bought these in as a waterproof boot. After testing a batch of them ourselves, we found they let water in – so, hand on heart, we can't class them as waterproof and we won't pretend otherwise (even though it will say waterproof on the box).
They may well give you some water-resistant ability, but we're not selling them as waterproof or water-resistant. They're simply a well-built, smart, hard-wearing oiled-leather yard boot – just not a dry-feet-in-a-downpour one.

Genuine YKK Front Zip Fastening
Here's where most budget yard boots fall apart literally. They use cheap generic zips that split, snag, or seize up within a season. The Atlas uses a genuine YKK zip, branded and certified. YKK zips are the global gold standard in zip manufacturing, used by premium outerwear and footwear brands worldwide.
The centre-front zip placement makes the boot incredibly quick to get on and off no fighting with laces, no struggling with side gussets. Step in, zip up, ride. Behind the zip is a stitched leather flap, helping keep out wind and debris and protecting the zip mechanism from grit.
Padded Synthetic Mesh Lining

The toe cap protects against kicks, knocks, and the inevitable scuffs from gates, wheelbarrows, and the occasional hoof. The heel cap shields against scrapes from stirrups and protects the rear of the boot historically one of the first places yard boots fail. Both reinforcements are bonded and stitched, not just glued.
Hybrid Rubber Outsole Yard and Saddle Ready

Deeper, more aggressive lugs at the heel give you serious grip on wet grass, mud, gravel, and yard concrete. The tread under the ball and toe of the foot is finer and more controlled designed to give you proper feel through the stirrup without snagging or catching when you mount and dismount.
The sole has a defined riding heel, meaning it'll sit safely and securely in a stirrup. While the Atlas is primarily a yard boot, that proper heel means it doubles as a competent short riding boot for hacking, schooling, and general riding duties. You don't need to swap boots every time you switch from yard work to the saddle.
Padded Collar and Tongue for All-Day Comfort

- Wipe down with a damp cloth after wet or muddy use don't let mud dry on overnight
- Allow to dry naturally, away from direct heat sources (radiators, hairdryers, etc., will crack the leather)
- Apply a quality leather conditioner or wax every few months to maintain the oiled finish
- Pay particular attention to the area around the zip keep grit out and the zip will keep working smoothly
- Stuff with newspaper if they get damp, to draw moisture out and maintain shape
