⚠️  Please read before buying — these are NOT waterproof

We bought these in as a waterproof boot. We tested a batch ourselves, water got in, so we will not sell them as waterproof or water-resistant. The box says “waterproof” — please ignore it; it doesn’t reflect how we’re selling these.

What we did: we tested boots from the batch for water ingress and water came through — enough that we can’t honestly call them waterproof.

What they are: a well-made oiled-leather yard boot — YKK zip, reinforced toe & heel, rubber sole — just not a dry-feet-in-a-downpour boot.

Buying with your eyes open: when you order these you’re buying a non-waterproof boot. We’ve made that as clear as we can so there are no surprises.

The short version: we bought these in as a waterproof boot. We tested a batch ourselves, water got in, so we will not sell them as waterproof. Simple as that.

The box says “waterproof” — please ignore it. The manufacturer’s box is printed with “waterproof.” After our own testing we don’t believe that’s accurate, so the wording on the box does not reflect how we’re selling these boots. We’d rather lose the sale than mislead you.

What we actually did. We took boots from the batch and tested them for water ingress. Water came through — not “maybe in a storm,” but enough that we cannot honestly call them waterproof.

What we’re claiming, in plain English. We are not selling the Atlas as waterproof or water-resistant. They may shrug off a light shower, but please don’t rely on them to keep your feet dry. Treat them as a non-waterproof boot, full stop.

So what are they? A genuinely well-made, smart, hard-wearing oiled-leather yard boot — YKK zip, reinforced toe and heel, proper rubber sole — just not a dry-feet-in-a-downpour boot.

That’s why the price is what it is. You’re getting a premium-built yard boot at a fraction of the usual price specifically because we’ve been upfront about the waterproofing. Once this batch is gone, it’s gone.

Buying with your eyes open: when you order the Atlas you’re buying a non-waterproof yard boot. We’ve made that as clear as we possibly can — on the listing, in the description, and in this note — so there are no surprises when they arrive.

⚠️ Not Waterproof:

We originally bought these in as a waterproof boot. After testing a batch of them ourselves, we found they let water in – so, hand on heart, we can't class them as waterproof and we won't pretend otherwise (even though it will say waterproof on the box).

They may well give you some water-resistant ability, but we're not selling them as waterproof or water-resistant. They're simply a well-built, smart, hard-wearing oiled-leather yard boot – just not a dry-feet-in-a-downpour one.

That's exactly why they're at such a good price right now. Once this batch is gone, it's gone.

Englander Equestrian Atlas Zip-Front Yard Boot Brown

Meet the Englander Equestrian Atlas, the hard-wearing yard boot built to carry your day. Named after the Titan who shouldered the heavens, Atlas is engineered for riders, yard owners, and country folk who need a boot that just gets on with it. Mucking out at 6am? Hacking out across the fields? Stomping through the yard in January? Atlas was built for exactly that.

What makes the Atlas genuinely special is the construction. We've used the same premium build philosophy you'd expect from boots costing a lot more, genuine YKK zip, oiled wax leather upper, rubber outsole and priced it at a fraction of that. No corners cut. No marketing fluff. Just a properly made boot at a properly fair price.

Why the Atlas Yard Boot Stands Apart

Most yard boots on the UK market sit in one of two camps. Either they're cheap, soft-soled, and start falling apart after a fortnight or they're very expensive premium boots that feel guilty wearing in the muck. The Atlas was built to solve exactly that gap.

Every component on this boot has been chosen for one reason: longevity in real equestrian use. The oiled wax leather. The genuine YKK zip. The reinforced microfibre toe and heel cap. The chunky rubber sole. The padded synthetic mesh lining. None of it is there for show it's there because riders kept coming back to us asking for a yard boot that actually lasts.

Premium Oiled Wax Leather Upper

The Atlas upper is crafted from oiled wax leather in a rich dark brown finish. Oiled wax leather isn't just chosen for the looks (though it does look beautiful) it's chosen because the oils and waxes are worked deep into the hide during tanning. That gives you three things at once:

  • A practical, wipe-clean finish mud and muck brush off easily, and the oiled leather hides scuffs rather than showing them off
  • A soft, supple feel from day one minimal break-in period, none of the stiff cardboard feel of cheap finished leathers
  • A leather that ages gracefully it'll develop a personal patina the more you wear it, in a way that synthetic uppers simply cannot

The leather has a soft, almost nubuck-like touch but with the durability of a properly oiled hide. Scuffs blend in rather than standing out. Scratches buff away with a soft brush. It's the kind of leather that looks better after six months than it did out of the box.

Easy-Care Oiled Leather

The Atlas upper is made from oiled wax leather, chosen for its character and durability. The oils and waxes worked deep into the hide during tanning give it a rich, hard-wearing finish that wipes clean, brushes up easily, and stands up to the daily realities of yard life.

To be completely clear: this is not a waterproof boot (please see the notice at the top of this listing). It's built to be tough, comfortable, and easy to look after for everyday yard work, schooling, and hacking rather than to keep water out. Shop the full Englander Equestrian boot range here.

Genuine YKK Front Zip Fastening

Here's where most budget yard boots fall apart literally. They use cheap generic zips that split, snag, or seize up within a season. The Atlas uses a genuine YKK zip, branded and certified. YKK zips are the global gold standard in zip manufacturing, used by premium outerwear and footwear brands worldwide.

The centre-front zip placement makes the boot incredibly quick to get on and off no fighting with laces, no struggling with side gussets. Step in, zip up, ride. Behind the zip is a stitched leather flap, helping keep out wind and debris and protecting the zip mechanism from grit.

Padded Synthetic Mesh Lining

Pull on a pair of cheap yard boots and you'll know it within five minutes sweaty, hot, and uncomfortable. The Atlas is lined with a padded synthetic mesh interior that solves this problem in two ways.

First, the mesh structure allows air to circulate, keeping your foot cooler in summer and reducing internal moisture build-up in winter. Second, the padded construction adds genuine comfort around the ankle and instep particularly important if you're on your feet at the yard for hours at a time.

The lining is also quick-drying, so if the inside does get damp it won't stay that way for days.

Reinforced Toe and Heel Cap

Look at the boot from the side and you'll see the chunky black microfibre toe and heel reinforcement wrapping the lower boot. This isn't a decorative styling choice it's a structural one.

The toe cap protects against kicks, knocks, and the inevitable scuffs from gates, wheelbarrows, and the occasional hoof. The heel cap shields against scrapes from stirrups and protects the rear of the boot historically one of the first places yard boots fail. Both reinforcements are bonded and stitched, not just glued.

Hybrid Rubber Outsole Yard and Saddle Ready

The Atlas outsole is a multi-directional rubber tread built for the realities of equestrian life. Deeper, more aggressive lugs at the heel give you serious grip on wet grass, mud, gravel, and yard concrete. The tread under the ball and toe of the foot is finer and more controlled designed to give you proper feel through the stirrup without snagging or catching when you mount and dismount.

The sole has a defined riding heel, meaning it'll sit safely and securely in a stirrup. While the Atlas is primarily a yard boot, that proper heel means it doubles as a competent short riding boot for hacking, schooling, and general riding duties. You don't need to swap boots every time you switch from yard work to the saddle.

Padded Collar and Tongue for All-Day Comfort

One look at the rear of the Atlas tells you the comfort detail has been thought through. The padded ankle collar cushions the top of the boot against your leg, eliminating the rubbing and chafing that lesser boots are notorious for. The tongue is similarly padded, sitting flat against the instep with no pressure points.

If you've ever ended a day at the yard with sore ankles, you'll appreciate the difference. Atlas was built for ten-hour days, not ten-minute walks.

Branded Pull-On Tab

Small detail, big difference. The Atlas features a woven Englander Equestrian pull-on tab at the rear, making the boot easier to pull on in a hurry particularly useful when you're balancing on one foot in a stable doorway. The tab is woven and stitched in, not glued or riveted, so it won't tear away over time.

The Englander Equestrian Story

Englander Equestrian is the own-brand line from Just Horse Riders, born from 15+ years working in the British equestrian industry and an honest frustration with the market. Too many riders were being asked to choose between two extremes: cheap kit that didn't last, or premium kit that didn't justify its price tag.

Englander Equestrian was built to occupy the missing middle genuinely premium construction, properly engineered, at a fair price. Our boot range is named after figures from Greek mythology because, frankly, we like the names and the stories suit the boots. Athena for the tall boot wise, refined, classic. Gaia for the jodhpur grounded, everyday, essential. And Atlas the Titan who shouldered the heavens for the toughest, hardest-wearing boot in the line. It seemed only right.

Care and Maintenance

To keep your Atlas boots performing for years rather than seasons, a few simple care habits go a long way:

  • Wipe down with a damp cloth after wet or muddy use don't let mud dry on overnight
  • Allow to dry naturally, away from direct heat sources (radiators, hairdryers, etc., will crack the leather)
  • Apply a quality leather conditioner or wax every few months to maintain the oiled finish
  • Pay particular attention to the area around the zip keep grit out and the zip will keep working smoothly
  • Stuff with newspaper if they get damp, to draw moisture out and maintain shape

Treated properly, oiled wax leather boots improve with age. The Atlas is built for the long haul.
