Description

Premier Equine Grackle Noseband for Racing Bridle

The Premier Equine Grackle Noseband is a figure-eight noseband made from European leather with stainless steel fittings, designed to fit a racing bridle. It is best for racing yards, point-to-point riders and anyone doing fast work who wants bit stability without restricting the horse's airflow.

Because the straps cross on the front of the face and fasten above and below the bit, a grackle spreads pressure differently to a standard cavesson and leaves the nostrils clear when the horse is at full stretch.

Key Features

  • European leather with tonal stitching for a clean, traditional finish
  • Stainless steel fittings that resist corrosion through repeated washing and wet work
  • Figure-eight design that keeps the nostrils unrestricted for free airflow
  • Lightweight and streamlined so it adds minimal bulk to a racing bridle
  • Subtle Premier Equine branding for a professional look on the gallops
  • Helps encourage a quieter mouth and a settled bit during fast work

How to Use

  1. Attach the noseband to the bridle headpiece or its own sliphead, following your usual racing bridle set-up.
  2. Position the centre pad on the front of the face, roughly a finger's width below the cheekbone.
  3. Fasten the upper straps behind the jaw, keeping them clear of the facial bones and the eye.
  4. Fasten the lower straps under the bit and in the chin groove, not on the soft nostril area.
  5. Check you can fit one to two fingers under each strap, then re-check after ten minutes of work.
  6. Wipe clean after use and condition the leather regularly to keep it supple.

FAQ

What is a grackle noseband used for?
A grackle, or figure-eight noseband, crosses on the front of the face and fastens above and below the bit. It helps discourage the horse from crossing the jaw or evading the bit while leaving the nostrils clear for airflow, which is why it is popular for racing, eventing and other fast work.

Does this noseband restrict the horse's breathing?
No. The straps are positioned to sit clear of the soft tissue of the nostrils, so the horse can take full breaths when galloping. Correct fitting is essential to keep the lower straps out of the nostril area.

What is it made from?
European leather with tonal stitching and stainless steel fittings, with subtle Premier Equine branding.

How tight should a grackle noseband be?
Firm but not restrictive. You should be able to slide one to two fingers under both the upper and lower straps, and the horse should still be able to flex and swallow comfortably.

Will it fit my existing racing bridle?
It is designed for use with a racing bridle and fits conventional bridlework arrangements. Check your bridle's sliphead or headpiece set-up and measure your current noseband before ordering, as horses vary in head length and width.

How do I care for the leather?
Wipe clean after every use, allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat and apply a leather balm regularly. Inspect the stitching and stainless steel fittings before each ride.
