Frequently Asked Questions
What thread size do these Premier Equine studs require?
These studs require a preformed hole with a 3/8" Whitworth standard thread, made by your farrier in your horse's shoe.
Are these studs suitable for hard ground as well as soft ground?
This set is specifically designed for soft ground. Premier Equine advise selecting your stud based on ground going - soft or hard - so a different stud type would be recommended for hard ground conditions.
Should studs be left in the shoe when not in use?
No. Stud holes should always be plugged when not in use to prevent stones and debris from entering or damaging the hole. Studs should also be removed immediately after riding.
Is there anything I should check before a competition?
Premier Equine advise checking your stud holes the day before a competition to ensure the threads on the shoe are intact and that the studs will apply correctly.
Do I need any tools to fit these studs?
A stud tap to clean the thread before use and an adjustable spanner to give the stud a final quarter turn are recommended. A magnetic metal bowl can also be useful to keep studs together and help locate any dropped on the grass.
Should I consult anyone before using studs on my horse?
Yes. Premier Equine advise that you always consult your farrier and vet before fitting studs, and that studs are introduced to your horse slowly to allow them to become used to the altered traction.
