Frequently Asked Questions
What thread size do these Premier Equine studs require?
These studs require a preformed hole of 3/8" Whitworth standard thread, which should be made in your horse's shoe by your farrier before use.
How do I apply these studs correctly?
First ensure the preformed hole is clear of debris - a stud tap can help. Screw the stud in clockwise by hand until the base contacts the shoe, then give a final quarter turn with a spanner to secure it. Always start with the inner stud.
Should I leave the studs in the shoe when not riding?
No. Studs should be removed immediately after riding. Stud holes should always be plugged when not in use to prevent stones and debris from entering or damaging the thread.
Is there a safety consideration for which stud position to use a rounded head?
Yes - Premier Equine advise using a rounded head stud on the inner hoof edge to help prevent injury caused by strike from the opposite leg.
How should I introduce studs to my horse?
Studs should be introduced slowly and not used for prolonged periods, allowing your horse to become accustomed to the altered traction. Always consult your farrier and vet before fitting studs.
