How should a headcollar fit?
The noseband should sit about two fingers below the cheekbone, with room to slide two fingers underneath, and the headpiece should sit comfortably behind the ears. Too loose and it can slip or catch; too tight and it rubs. Most styles run foal, pony, cob and full — check each brand's guide.
Field and tying safety
If a horse wears a headcollar for turnout, choose a field-safe breakaway design (or leather, which will break under real force) — never a heavy-duty nylon one, which won't give if it snags. When tying up, tie to a loop of baler twine rather than directly to the ring, use a quick-release knot, and never wrap a lead rope around your hand.

What size headcollar does my horse need?
Most headcollars run foal, pony, cob and full. Cob suits many natives and smaller horses; full suits most riding horses. Fitted right, the noseband sits two fingers below the cheekbone with two fingers' space underneath.
Should a horse wear a headcollar in the field?
Ideally horses are turned out without one. If yours must wear one (hard to catch, for example), use a field-safe breakaway design that gives way if it catches on something — never a heavy-duty nylon headcollar unattended.

How do I tie up a horse safely?
Tie the lead rope to a loop of baler twine on the tie ring (it snaps in an emergency), use a quick-release knot at about wither height, and never leave a tied horse unattended for long. Never wrap the rope around your hand when leading.
