Global Herbs digestion supplements for horses

Global Herbs digestion supplements are herbal feed supplements you add to your horse's normal ration to support everyday digestive comfort. This collection holds 16 Global Herbs lines, in powders and liquids, in pack sizes from 500ml and 500gm tubs up to 5kg and 5-litre yard packs. If you want a single starting point, the broadest options are Global Herbs Restore (from £24.14), Global Herbs Psyllium (1kg, £24.11) or Global Herbs Gut Support (from £28.03). Supplements support a healthy diet - they are not medicines, and anything that looks like a genuine digestive problem is a conversation for your vet first.

Powder or liquid - does it matter?

It usually comes down to your horse and your routine rather than the supplement itself. Powders are easy to scoop into a damp feed and tend to give you more feeding days per pound - a 1kg tub of Restore is £25.73 against £43.57 for 1 litre of the liquid. Liquids suit horses that pick powders out of the bucket, and they mix in without needing the feed dampened first. Restore is the one product here you can buy either way, so if you are unsure, the 500ml liquid at £24.14 or the 1kg powder at £25.73 are both sensible test sizes.

What pack size should you buy first?

Buy the smallest pack for the first purchase. Horses vary, and there is no point committing to a 5kg tub before you know your horse will eat it. Gut Support and Clearout both come in 500gm as well as 1kg, and Restore starts at 500ml, so you can trial without much outlay. After that, do the maths on price per kilo or per litre rather than assuming the biggest pack is automatically the cheapest, because in this range it is not always true. Clearout is better value at 1kg (£34.44) than at 500gm (£23.63 for half the quantity), and the 5 Litre Restore liquid at £201.10 works out lower per litre than the 1 Litre at £43.57. The 5kg Restore powder at £132.74, though, is a shade more per kilo than the 1kg at £25.73 - so that one is a convenience and fewer-deliveries buy rather than a saving.

How do you introduce a new supplement?

Slowly. Follow the feeding rate on the tub, start at the lower end, and give it a week or two before you judge anything. Changing several things at once - a new supplement, a new hard feed and a new turnout routine in the same week - makes it impossible to tell what did what. Keep everything else steady and change one thing at a time.

Can you feed more than one Global Herbs product together?

Sometimes, but check the labels before you do. Herbal supplements can share ingredients, and stacking three tubs can mean feeding the same herb three times over. If you are considering a combination, get in touch and our team will help, and run it past your vet if your horse is on medication or has a known condition.

Frequently asked questions

Which Global Herbs digestion supplement should I start with?

For a general everyday option, Global Herbs Restore is the broadest choice here and is the one product in the range available as either a powder (1kg, £25.73) or a liquid (500ml, £24.14). If you specifically want a fibre supplement, Global Herbs Psyllium is £24.11 for 1kg. Gut Support starts at £28.03 for a 500gm tub if you want a smaller trial size. If your horse has an ongoing digestive problem rather than a general need for support, speak to your vet before choosing a supplement.

How long before I see a difference?

Give any feed supplement a fair trial of several weeks at the rate printed on the tub before deciding. Herbal supplements are fed to support the diet over time rather than to produce an overnight change, and results vary between horses. Keep the rest of the routine the same during the trial so you can actually tell whether it made a difference. If nothing has changed after a month or two, it is worth reviewing the whole diet with your vet or a nutritionist rather than adding another tub.

Can I feed these to a horse that competes?

Check before you feed. Competition rules on naturally occurring prohibited substances change, and different disciplines and governing bodies take different positions on herbal ingredients. Always read the current product label and packaging, check your governing body's own guidance for the season you are competing in, and ask your vet if you are unsure. Do not rely on a general web page for a rules decision that affects a competition entry.

Are these supplements suitable for ponies and older horses?

Feeding rates are normally given by bodyweight, so ponies simply need a smaller scoop and a tub lasts far longer. Older horses and native types often have other things going on - dental issues, weight management, metabolic conditions - and those should be assessed by a vet rather than managed with a supplement. If your horse or pony has a diagnosed condition or is on medication, check with your vet before adding anything new to the feed.

Is the bigger tub actually better value?

Not always, so it is worth checking the maths. The clearest saving in this collection is Apple & Garlic Cider Vinegar at £9.57 for 1 Litre against £23.18 for 5 Litre, which is roughly half the price per litre. Global Herbs Restore liquid is also lower per litre at 5 Litre (£201.10) than at 1 Litre (£43.57), though by a smaller margin. The Restore powder goes the other way: £25.73 for 1kg and £132.74 for 5kg, so the 5kg is fractionally more per kilo and you are buying it for convenience rather than a discount. Buy small first either way, then compare price per kilo or per litre before you scale up.

Can I mix a Global Herbs supplement with the ones I already feed?

Read the ingredient lists of everything in the bucket first. Balancers, joint supplements and digestive supplements frequently overlap, and it is easy to end up feeding the same herb or the same vitamin from three different tubs. If you would like a second pair of eyes on what you are feeding, get in touch and our team will help. For horses on veterinary medication, clear any new supplement with your vet before you start.
