Horseware Accessories

Why buy Horseware spares rather than generic ones?
Rug hardware is not universal. Leg straps, surcingles and front discs are cut and clipped to fit the loops and fittings Horseware puts on Amigo, Rambo and Rhino rugs, so a Horseware spare drops straight on without the strap sitting at the wrong length or the clip fouling the D-ring. If a rug is otherwise sound, a £7.95 strap or a £9.95 set of surcingles usually saves buying a whole replacement rug.
How do I know which spare part I need?
Look at where the rug has failed. A strap dangling at the hind leg is a leg strap; a strap crossing under the belly is a surcingle; a round plastic fitting at the chest is a front disc; a cord looping under the tail on a turnout or rain sheet is a tailcord. If you are unsure, get in touch and our team will help you match the part to your rug.
What is a Slinky and do I need one?
A Slinky is a close-fitting stretch layer worn under a rug. The Horseware Rambo Slinky range covers the shoulder only (£47.95), the head and neck (£59.95), or the whole body (£85.95, X-Small currently in stock). The stretch fabric lies flat against the coat so rug movement rubs the Slinky rather than the hair, which is why they are popular with clipped horses and anyone competing through the winter. They are a grooming and presentation aid, not a warmth layer — keep the rug on top.
Shoulder, hood or full body?
Choose the shoulder piece if the rubbing is limited to the chest and points of shoulder. Choose the hood if the mane, forelock and neck are the problem, or you want the plaits to stay in overnight. Choose the full body if you want the coat kept flat all over, for example in the run-up to a show.
Which ear net should I pick?
All three ear nets in this collection do the same basic job — covering the ears against flies and dulling noise for a sharp or spooky horse — so pick on fit and finish. The Horseware Amigo Ear Net at £16.95 is the everyday option and comes in Cob/Horse across four colours. The Horseware Ear Net at £25.95 comes in Horse in Dynasty Green. The Horseware Newmarket Ear Net, also £25.95, uses the Witney check and stripe patterns and suits a smarter turnout.
What else is worth adding?
The Horseware Tail Guard And Bag at £29.95 protects a pulled or plaited tail on the lorry and stops the top of the dock rubbing on the ramp. The Horseware Newmarket Rain Sheet at £77.95 is the sheet to keep in the lorry for a wet showground, in Small to X-Large. The Horseware Yard Knife at £31.09 is a purpose-made blade for baler twine, haynet strings and net ties.
Horseware accessories: your questions answered
Will Horseware leg straps and surcingles fit my Amigo or Rambo rug?
They are made to Horseware's own fittings, so they clip onto the loops and D-rings used across the Amigo, Rambo and Rhino rug ranges. The Horseware Elasticated Leg Straps (£7.95) are one size, and the Horseware Safety Surcingles (Set Of 3) come in X-Small to X-Large (£9.95) to match the rug size, with the colour in stock varying by size. If your rug is an older model or you are not certain of the size, get in touch and our team will help.
What is the cheapest Horseware accessory here?
Three spares share the lowest in-stock price of £7.95: the Horseware Elasticated Leg Straps, the Horseware Disc Front (Spare) and the Horseware Elast Pvc Covered Tailcord. The Horseware Safety Surcingles (Set Of 3) are next at £9.95 for the set.
Does a Slinky replace a rug?
No. A Slinky is a thin stretch layer worn underneath a rug to keep the coat flat and reduce rubbing. It adds very little warmth on its own, so use it with the rug your horse would normally wear. The Rambo Slinky Shoulder starts at £47.95, the Hood at £59.95 and the Full Body at £85.95.
Do ear nets stop a horse hearing?
They muffle rather than block. The mesh takes the edge off sudden noise and keeps flies out of the ears, which can help a horse that reacts to a loud arena or a windy day. It is a management aid, not a fix for a training or pain issue — if a horse suddenly becomes head-shy or head-shakes, speak to your vet first.
How do I wash Horseware accessories?
Follow the care label on the individual item. As a rule, knock off dried mud and hair first, wash cool, and skip fabric softener and tumble drying — softener clogs the fibres on stretch bodywear and heat can distort elastic in leg straps and surcingles. Air dry away from direct heat.
Some sizes and colours are showing as unavailable — what now?
Stock moves on spares, so the size and colour list on each product page is the live picture. At the moment, for example, the Rambo Slinky Full Body is available in X-Small only. If the size you need is not showing, get in touch and our team will help you find the nearest alternative or let you know when it is due back.
