Pig oil is a traditional grooming oil that horse owners use on legs and feather to condition the skin and put a waterproof barrier against wet and mud. Pig oil and sulphur adds sulphur to the same idea. We stock both, as liquids and 500ml sprays, from Lincoln, Gold Label, Nettex and TriamVet.

Before You Use It

  • Patch test first: try a small area and wait to see how the skin reacts.
  • Clean, dry legs: apply it to clean skin rather than over mud.
  • Broken or sore skin: ask your vet before you use it.

Pig Oil FAQs

What is pig oil used for on horses?

Owners mainly use it on legs and feather, to condition the skin and give a waterproof barrier against wet and mud. Some also use it as a coat gloss or, for some products, as a clipping oil. Check each label.

What is the difference between pig oil and pig oil and sulphur?

Pig oil and sulphur adds sulphur to the oil. Some products come ready to use, so check the label for how to apply it.

Is pig oil safe for horses?

Many owners use it, but every horse's skin is different. Patch test first, avoid broken or sore skin, and ask your vet if your horse has a skin condition. It won't replace treatment from your vet.
