Half Pads
Free UK delivery over £50 · Next-day on eligible items ordered before 4pm · 90-day returns · Family-run UK retailer since 2010.
A half pad sits under the saddle, over your saddle pad, to add cushioning or fine-tune the fit. We stock around 50 in sheepskin, merino, gel, memory foam and shimmable styles, from LeMieux, ThinLine, Shires ARMA, Premier Equine, KM Elite and Rhinegold. A half pad can't fix a badly fitting saddle, so ask your saddle fitter if you are unsure.
Which Half Pad Do You Need?
- Sheepskin or merino: soft and natural, and helps with moisture.
- Gel or memory foam: chosen for extra cushioning under the saddle.
- Shimmable: has pockets for inserts, so you can adjust front or back. Best used with a saddle fitter's advice.

Half Pad FAQs
Do I need a half pad?
Not always. A saddle that fits well on a horse with a healthy back may not need one. Riders usually add one for extra cushioning, or for a small fit change on a saddle fitter's advice.
Can a half pad fix a saddle that doesn't fit?
No. It can help with small adjustments, but too much padding can make a tight saddle tighter. If you are unsure about the fit, ask a qualified saddle fitter.
Where does a half pad go?
Usually on top of your saddle pad and directly under the saddle. Pull it up into the gullet so it doesn't press on the withers.
