How to Use
- Measure your horse from the centre of the chest, along the body, to the point of the buttock and choose the matching size.
- Tack up as normal, then lay the exercise sheet over the back and quarters, smoothing the fleece flat under the saddle area.
- Thread the girth or girth straps through the girth loop on each side so the sheet is held securely in place.
- Check the sheet sits clear of the spine and does not restrict the saddle or your leg position before mounting.
- Fold the sheet forward over the quarters for faster work if needed, and re-position for walking and cooling down.
- After riding, shake off loose hair and dry mud, then launder the fleece as required.
FAQ
What is an exercise sheet used for?
An exercise sheet, also called a quarter sheet, covers the horse's back and quarters while ridden. It helps keep the muscles warm in cold weather during schooling, hacking and warming up or cooling down.
What size exercise sheet do I need?
Measure from the centre of the chest, along the side of the body, to the point of the buttock and match that to your horse's usual rug size. If your horse falls between two sizes, the larger size gives a fuller cut over the quarters.
How does this exercise sheet stay in place?
There is a girth loop on either side, so the girth or girth straps pass through the loops and hold the sheet securely while you ride.
What is it made from?
The sheet is made from soft, cosy fleece for comfort and protection on chilly rides.
Can it be used under a saddle?
Yes. It is designed to be fitted over the back and quarters with the saddle in place and the girth secured through the loops. Always check the sheet sits clear of the spine and does not interfere with the saddle before mounting.
Is it suitable for ponies as well as horses?
Yes, provided you choose the size that matches your pony's rug measurement. Check the available size options before ordering.
