Hy Equestrian Progroom Two Tone Long Bristle Dandy Brush

The Hy Equestrian Progroom Two Tone Long Bristle Dandy Brush is a large, soft touch dandy brush with long PP bristles, used to lift dried mud, dust and loose hair from a horse's coat. It is best for owners who need a hard-working everyday brush for muddy legs, winter coats and post-turnout grooming on the yard.

As a dandy brush, it is the first tool most people reach for in a grooming routine: firm long bristles bring dirt to the surface, ready for a body brush to smooth and shine the coat. The oversized head covers more ground per stroke, and the two-tone soft touch design keeps the brush comfortable to hold when you are scrubbing at set-in mud.

FAQ

What is a dandy brush used for?
A dandy brush has firm, longer bristles and is used to remove dried mud, dust, bedding and loose hair from the coat. It is normally the first brush used in a grooming session, before a softer body brush.

Is this brush suitable for ponies as well as horses?
Yes. The Progroom dandy brush can be used on horses and ponies of any type, including natives, cobs and warmbloods. Adjust the pressure you apply to suit thin-skinned or ticklish individuals.

Can I use it on the face, mane and tail?
It is not recommended. The long PP bristles are firm and best kept to the body and legs. Use a soft face brush for the head and a mane and tail brush or comb for the hair.

How do I clean the brush?
Knock out loose dirt after each use, rinse the bristles in clean water and stand the brush bristle-side down to air dry. Avoid prolonged soaking and keep it away from direct heat.

Will it get dried winter mud off?
The long bristles are designed for exactly that. Let the mud dry first where possible, then work with short flicking strokes so the bristles lift the dirt out rather than pushing it further into the coat.

How is a dandy brush different from a body brush?
A dandy brush has long, firm bristles for shifting mud and dirt. A body brush has short, soft bristles that remove the finer dust left behind and bring a shine to the coat, so the two are usually used together.
