Hy Equestrian Progroom Vivid Dandy Brush

The Hy Equestrian Progroom Vivid Dandy Brush is a stiff-bristled grooming brush that lifts mud, dried sweat and stubborn dust from a horse's coat. It is best for the first stage of grooming on horses and ponies, especially field-kept animals coming in caked in winter mud, and is used before a body brush and finishing cloth.

Made with stiff PP bristles and finished in a bright, vivid colourway, it is easy to spot in a shared grooming kit on a busy yard.

FAQ

What is a dandy brush used for?
A dandy brush is the first brush used in a grooming routine. Its stiff bristles lift mud, dried sweat and dust out of the coat so a softer body brush can then smooth and shine the hair.

Is this brush too harsh for a sensitive horse?
The PP bristles are stiff by design, which makes them effective on mud but firm on the skin. On thin-skinned or clipped horses, use light pressure and keep to the muscular areas of the body, switching to a soft brush elsewhere.

Can it be used on ponies and youngsters?
Yes. It suits horses and ponies of all types. With youngsters, introduce the brush gently and keep strokes light until they are settled with being groomed.

How do I clean the dandy brush?
Tap out the loose dirt and hair after each groom, rinse the bristles in clean water when they become clogged, then stand the brush bristles down to air dry. Avoid prolonged soaking and direct heat.

Can I use it on a muddy, wet coat?
It works best on a dry or nearly dry coat, as dried mud brushes out far more easily than wet mud. Allow a wet, muddy horse to dry off first, then brush.
