LeMieux Arika Contoured Long Girth — Soft Leather Comfort for Dressage Saddles

The LeMieux Arika Contoured Long Girth is a soft, supple leather long girth shaped to follow the horse's natural contours, designed for dressage and monoflap saddles that use long billet straps. It suits riders who want an elegant competition-ready girth that helps keep the saddle stable while allowing freedom of movement through the muscles behind the elbow.

Best for schooling, flatwork and competition, the Arika pairs classic leatherwork with practical detailing: an integrated D-ring for training aids, a carabiner clip with a cross-over leather base cover, and slightly elasticated straps that flex with the horse without affecting saddle stability. How to Use

  1. Measure a long girth that already fits your horse from buckle end to buckle end, or measure under the belly between the middle billet holes on each side of the saddle, and choose the matching length.
  2. Position the contoured girth so the shaped cut-back section sits behind the elbows, with the smooth leather flat against the skin.
  3. Fasten the buckles onto the billet straps on the near side, keeping the holes level with those on the off side.
  4. Tighten gradually in stages, checking the girth once mounted and after a few minutes of walking.
  5. Attach training aids to the D-ring when required, and use the carabiner clip as intended.
  6. After riding, wipe the leather clean and condition regularly to keep it soft.

FAQ

What size long girth do I need?
Measure an existing long girth that fits your horse from buckle end to buckle end, or measure under the belly from the middle billet hole on one side of the saddle to the same point on the other side. The buckles should finish level and roughly midway up the saddle flap. Ponies and small cobs usually take shorter lengths, while full-size horses and warmbloods take longer sizes.

Is this girth suitable for a dressage saddle?
Yes. It is a long girth, made for dressage and monoflap saddles fitted with long billet straps. Saddles with short billets require a short girth instead.

What is the D-ring for?
The D-ring allows training aids to be attached quickly and easily, which is useful for flatwork and groundwork sessions.

Does the contoured shape really help the horse?
The shaping is cut to follow the horse's anatomy behind the elbow, allowing comfort and freedom of the muscles, while the ultra-soft leather absorbs pressure evenly across the surface area of the girth.

Will the elastic affect saddle stability?
No. The straps are only slightly elasticated, giving a little flexibility as the horse works while still holding the saddle securely in place.

How do I care for the leather?
Wipe off sweat and mud after each ride, condition regularly with a leather balm or oil, and dry naturally away from direct heat. Check the stitching, elastic and fittings before every ride.
