LeMieux Arika Field Rug Lightweight Fly Turnout Rug
Description
LeMieux Arika Field Rug - Breathable 450D Ripstop Summer Turnout
The LeMieux Arika Field Rug is a lightweight field and stable rug made from breathable 450D ripstop fabric with built-in UPF50+ sun protection. It is best for horses and ponies turned out in warm, bright or fly-heavy conditions, where the priority is shielding the coat from UV rays, insects and dirt rather than adding warmth.
With a detachable neck cover, an anti-static antibacterial under-lining and a patented angled front closure, the Arika offers full-body cover without restricting the shoulder, so horses can graze and play freely. Browse more horse rugs to compare weights and cuts.

How to Use
- Measure your horse from the centre of the chest, along the side of the body, to the point of the rump to find the correct rug size.
- Attach the detachable neck cover if you want additional sun and fly coverage, or leave it off on cooler, duller days.
- Fold the rug and lay it over the withers, then unfold it back along the body so the coat lies flat.
- Fasten the front closure first, then the belly surcingles, then the leg straps, linking the leg straps through each other.
- Check the fit: you should be able to slide a flat hand along the shoulder and under the chest fastening, with the tail flap sitting level.
- Remove daily to check for rubs, brush off dried mud and inspect fastenings and stitching.
FAQ
What is the LeMieux Arika Field Rug used for?
It is a lightweight field and stable rug that protects horses from UV rays, insects and dirt. The 450D ripstop fabric carries UPF50+ protection and blocks 98% of the sun's rays, making it best for summer turnout rather than warmth.
Does the Arika Field Rug have a detachable neck?
Yes. It comes with a lightweight detachable neck cover that adds protection over the neck and crest on sunny days and can be removed when it is not needed.
Will the rug restrict my horse's shoulder movement?
No. The unique patented two-part front skirt and patented 45 degree angled front closure are designed for non-restrictive shoulder movement, giving freedom to graze and play.
How do I choose the right size?
Measure from the centre of the chest, along the body, to the point of the rump, and match that measurement to the size chart. If your horse falls between two sizes, choose the larger size - rugs that are short in the body or tight across the chest are the most common cause of rubbing and returns.
Is the lining suitable for sensitive horses?
The under-lining is anti-static and antibacterial, which helps prevent rubbing and microbial build-up against the coat. Check daily for rubs at the shoulder and wither as you would with any rug.
How should I care for the rug?
Brush off dried mud, check fastenings and stitching regularly, and follow the care label. Avoid fabric softeners and harsh detergents so the fabric finish is not affected.
