LeMieux Leather Spur Straps — Soft Oiled Leather with Stainless Steel Buckles

LeMieux Leather Spur Straps are a pair of soft oiled leather straps that fasten your spurs securely to your riding boots. They are designed to fit all types of spur, making them a straightforward replacement or upgrade for any rider who schools, jumps or hacks in spurs.

Because the strap holds the spur level on the boot spur rest, it stops the spur from slipping out of place and pressing awkwardly against your horse, and it protects the leather of your boots from scratches and scrapes. Stainless steel buckles and a stamped LeMieux logo finish them off neatly for competition turnout. Browse more rider accessories in our LeMieux collection.

How to Use

  1. Thread the strap through the slot on one spur arm from the inside outwards.
  2. Pass the free end through the second spur arm so the buckle will sit on the outside of your boot.
  3. Position the spur on the spur rest at the back of your boot heel, sitting level and pointing straight to the rear.
  4. Fasten the buckle so the strap is snug against the boot without gripping your foot, then tuck the tail through the keeper.
  5. Check the spur has not rotated before you mount, and re-check after the first few minutes of work.
  6. Wipe the leather clean after use and condition occasionally to keep it supple.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these straps fit my spurs?
They are designed to fit all types of spur, so they suit standard English riding spurs with conventional strap slots, including Prince of Wales, roller ball and dummy styles.

Are they sold as a pair or singly?
They are supplied as a pair, so you can replace both straps at once and keep the leather colour and condition matched.

How tight should a spur strap be?
Snug enough that the spur cannot slide, rotate or drop below the spur rest, but not so tight that it digs into your boot or foot. If the spur moves during a schooling session, take it in one hole.

Do spur straps damage riding boots?
A correctly fitted leather strap helps prevent damage. It holds the spur arms steady so they cannot rub against the boot, which is what causes most of the scratches and scrapes riders see on the heel and quarters.

How do I care for oiled leather spur straps?
Wipe off mud, sand and sweat after riding, allow them to dry naturally away from direct heat, and apply a leather conditioner now and then. Replace the straps if the leather cracks or the stitching gives way.

Can I use them with short boots and gaiters?
Yes. The spur rest sits at a slightly different height on short boots with gaiters than on tall boots, so you may need to adjust the buckle by a hole when you swap between pairs.
