How do I choose the right LeMieux girth?

Short girth or long girth?
Short girths are used with dressage and mono-flap saddles, where the billets run long and the buckles sit low under the saddle flap. Long girths are used with GP, jump and general-purpose saddles, where the billets are short and the buckles sit up under your leg. LeMieux short girths are sized in centimetres (and the Integrated Dressage Girth is also listed in inches), while long girths are sized in centimetres too — always check the size list on the product page rather than assuming your old girth size carries across brands.
Do I need a stud girth?
Only if you jump in studs. A stud girth is wider and shaped through the middle so that if your horse tucks its front legs up tight over a fence, the studs meet padded girth rather than bare belly. If you never screw studs in, a standard anatomic girth like the Gel-Tek Anatomic Jumping Girth (£149.95) is the simpler choice.
Which LeMieux girths suit a horse that rubs?
Rubbing usually happens behind the elbow, where the girth edge sits. Two things help: an anatomic shape that curves away from the elbow, and a soft lining. How do I look after a LeMieux girth?
Wipe the girth down after every ride — dried sweat and grit are what cause rubs, not the girth itself. Leather girths such as the Arika range want a light conditioner every few weeks so the leather stays supple. Fleece and Simuwool linings and covers can be brushed out and washed as directed on the label, which is one of the reasons a removable lining or a slip-on cover is worth having.
