A stable sheet is a light indoor rug that keeps a groomed horse clean, adds a little warmth on mild nights and can go under a heavier rug. Most have little or no filling, but not all, so check the fill on the product page. We stock Horseware Rambo and Amigo, Premier Equine, LeMieux, Shires, Bucas and Winnie & Me.

How To Choose

  • Fabric: cotton feels traditional, and ripstop polyester is built to last.
  • Neck: choose a standard neck, or a combo for more coverage and a cleaner neck.
  • Fill: most are 0g or very light, but some are warmer, like the 200g Shires Tempest Original. See our rug weight guide.

Stable Sheet FAQs

What is a stable sheet used for?

It keeps a groomed horse clean, adds a light layer on mild nights and can go under a heavier rug. Some, like the Horseware Amigo, can also work as a cooler or travel rug.

Can a horse wear a stable sheet outside?

No. Stable sheets aren't waterproof like a turnout rug, so keep them for indoors unless the product page says otherwise.

What temperature is a stable sheet for?

Our rug weight guide suggests a no-fill sheet for a clipped, stabled horse above about 10°C. Every horse is different, so check with a hand under the rug.
