Fetlock boots go on the hind legs to protect the inside of the fetlock from knocks, mostly for jumping, and are usually paired with tendon boots in front. We stock around 50 pairs from LeMieux, Shires ARMA, Woof Wear, Premier Equine, WeatherBeeta and Horseware.
How To Choose
- Your riding: a simple pair suits schooling, and a more technical boot suits regular jumping.
- Competition rules: some competitions limit which hind boots you can use, so check your rule book.
- Fit: snug, but not tight, with the straps fastening evenly and facing backwards.

Fetlock Boot FAQs
What do fetlock boots do?
They protect the inside of the hind fetlock from being knocked by the opposite hind foot, which is most likely when landing after a jump.
Are fetlock boots allowed in competitions?
It depends on the discipline and class. Some rules limit the type or weight of hind boots, so check your rule book. Some boots, like the WeatherBeeta Tough-Tec Prime, say they are FEI-compliant.
How tight should fetlock boots be?
Snug enough not to slip, with room for a finger under the straps. Take them off straight after work and check the legs for rubs or heat.
