A Mighty Leap Every Time: The Thrilling Journey of a Young Equestrian Champ

In the world of horse riding, the spotlight isn't always about horses. The little riders atop them are the real stars too. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the case of 9-year-old Bella Dunseath, a young equestrian whose passion and resiliency shine brighter than a championship trophy.

Bella's Victorious Moment

Bella's dream to secure a Heickstead ticket finally became a reality when she finished third in the winter 128cm second round at Onley. And guess what? She knew that she nailed it even before finishing the round. Bella, a true horse riding champ, punched the air in joyful victory five strides before clearing the last fence. See, if that's not a winner’s spirit, what is? She rode on her partner-in-victory, Cwmdistaw Hermione, a mare Bella had carefully nursed back to health after being subjected to surgery on both her legs. There's a majestic bond between a horse and its rider that can’t be put into mere words. Bella’s triumphant performance is a testament to the trust and love between her and her horse.

Joy, Discipline, and an Element of Surprise

The picture of her post-victory air punch emerged shortly after, igniting delighted reactions. Bella's mother, Rose Squibb-Williams, recounted amusingly how she told her daughter not to do her signature move. But when Bella replied, "Five strides out, I knew she was going to clear it," all she could do was marvel at her child's conviction. This isn't Bella's first time doing her iconic air punch, as she's done it before during the Blue Chip Winter Showjumping Championships last year. Rose was elated not just with Bella's victory but also with her enthusiasm and love for the sport. "She’s having fun and that's what matters the most at her age," Rose said in glee.

The Story of Bella and Chilli

The family brought Chilli, as Cwmdistaw Hermione is fondly called, home at the start of last year when the mare was six years old. The relationship was not off to a good start as Rose initially found Chilli low on spark. However, Bella and Chilli soon began to gain momentum as they started collecting one clear jump after another. But destiny had a trial in store for them. Chilli got lame and was diagnosed with palmar annular ligament syndrome in both its hind legs. The ailment worsened to such an extent that she needed surgery to improve her condition.

Preparation, Patience, and a Glorious Comeback

The recovery phase was hard both for Bella and Chilli, yet they emerged stronger through the challenge. The determined Bella did all the walking rehab for her horse while Chilli, resilient as always, managed to start jumping again. It was a scary yet amazing feat. In the face of adversity, Bella and Chilli proved that they were born winners. After endless training sessions, the duo was ready to step back into the competition ring. Their hardwork paid off splendidly as they jumped clear in the first round, thereby securing Bella's dream Heickstead ticket. Witnessing Bella's passionate belief and complete trust in her horse was beyond inspirational.

Where Champions are Born: All You Need is Self-Belief

The duo's success isn't just a story of victory, it's a tale of unwavering self-belief. Bella woke up on the day of the competition with a gut feeling that she'd qualify. Even though Chilli was novice compared to the other horses, Bella's belief did not waver. Whether in horse-riding or life itself, sometimes all we need is that little voice inside our head saying, "I can do it." Source: Horse & Hound
