Description

Science Supplements RespirAid is an innovative respiratory support supplement for horses, available in two formulations: RespirAid Express (for fast, short-term support) and RespirAid DHA (for longer-term respiratory support). Available in 630g Pouch and 1.85Kg.

  • Vitamin C (as ascorbyl monophosphate) - A natural water-soluble anti-oxidant. Ascorbyl monophosphate is used for efficient absorption, supporting horses whose demand for Vitamin C increases during respiratory challenges.
  • Natural Vitamin E - Essential for every cell in the body. The natural form is preferential as more of it is absorbed. Horses cannot produce Vitamin E themselves; it must be provided through diet.
  • MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane) - A natural source of Sulphur, which is essential for the maintenance and repair of structural tissues including skin, hoof and cartilage. MSM also has properties that make it well suited for use in respiratory supplements.
  • DHA & EPA (Omega 3 fatty acids) - Found in substantial amounts only in marine-sourced Omega 3. DHA and EPA have been found to be beneficial to many body systems in the horse including the lungs. Included in the RespirAid DHA version only. Plant-sourced Omega 3 such as linseed does not result in increased DHA and EPA in body tissues in horses.
  • Organic Selenium - A circulating anti-oxidant mineral needed to produce the enzyme Glutathione peroxidase. Provided in organic yeast form, which is considered much safer to feed to horses than the inorganic form sodium selenite.
  • Copper, Zinc and Manganese Chelate - Organic chelated sources linked to a protein hydrolysate for better bioavailability and gentler digestion. Protein hydrolysates consist of amino acids and peptides, which are absorbed more rapidly than proteins.
  • Trials conducted in horses with respiratory problems showed results in as little as 7 days.
  • No prohibited substances; manufactured and tested under UFAS licence and NOPS scheme - safe for competition horses.
  • Should be mixed with feed, ideally twice a day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between RespirAid Express and RespirAid DHA?
RespirAid Express is designed for horses needing fast, effective and short-term respiratory support. RespirAid DHA is formulated for horses needing longer-term respiratory support, or for those moving on from the Express version. The DHA version includes DHA and EPA omega 3 fatty acids from marine sources, which are not present in the Express version.
What sizes does Science Supplements RespirAid come in?
RespirAid is available in two sizes: a 630g Pouch and a 1.85Kg tub.
How soon might I expect to see changes after starting RespirAid?
Science Supplements' research studies indicate results within 7-14 days.
Is RespirAid safe for competition horses?
Yes. There are no prohibited substances in RespirAid, and all Science Supplements products are manufactured and tested under their UFAS licence and NOPS scheme.
Why does RespirAid use organic selenium rather than sodium selenite?
Organic selenium, provided as a selenium yeast, is considered much safer to feed to horses than the inorganic form sodium selenite. It also acts as a circulating anti-oxidant and is needed by the body to produce the enzyme Glutathione peroxidase.
Why is marine-sourced Omega 3 used in RespirAid DHA rather than a plant source like linseed?
DHA and EPA are specific types of Omega 3 fatty acids found in substantial amounts only in marine sources. Plant-sourced Omega 3, such as linseed, does not result in increased DHA and EPA in body tissues in horses, so marine sources are used in the DHA version.
