What is in the Veredus Biocareline range?

Biocareline is the horse care side of Veredus, a brand that also makes horse boots and bandages. Rather than one do-everything bottle, the range splits into jobs: four hoof ointments plus a frog lotion, three leg gels, a clay, a skin cream, an anti-itch lotion, three shampoos, two citronella fly products, two equipment sprays and two leather products. That means you pick the product that matches the problem in front of you instead of compromising.

Sizes are generous — most hoof ointments are 1000ml tubs and most gels and shampoos are 500ml — so a single purchase usually lasts a season on one horse.

Which hoof ointment should I choose?

Four ointments sounds like a lot until you look at what each one is for. They all sit at a similar price, so the choice is about conditions rather than budget.

Honey Hoof for dry, brittle horn

An emollient ointment for hooves that have gone hard and chippy through a dry spell or a summer on baked ground. Veredus Honey Hoof is £23.00 for 1000ml.

Winter Hoof for wet, muddy months

Formulated with thyme oil for the other end of the year, when hooves are standing in mud and softening rather than drying out. Veredus Winter Hoof is £23.00 for 1000ml.

Golden Hoof and Green Hoof for everyday use

Golden Hoof, from £25.00 for 1000ml, is the lanolin, linseed and fish oil option aimed at flexibility and steady growth. Green Hoof, £23.00 for 1000ml, is the thyme-oil alternative if you want that formula as your year-round brush-on. Either works as your standard tub; pick Golden Hoof if conditioning matters most and Green Hoof if you want the thyme-oil formula.

Villate for the frog and sole

Veredus Villate, £28.00 for 500ml, is a lotion for cleaning and protecting the frog rather than the outer wall. It complements an ointment rather than replacing it. If the frog is smelly, crumbling or painful, speak to your farrier or vet before you start applying anything.

What is the difference between Ice Gel, Phlo Gel and Cool Clay?

All three are leg products used after work, and they overlap enough to confuse people. Ice Gel, £29.00 for 500ml, is the quick refreshing gel with calendula — the one you smooth on after a fast round while you untack. Phlo Gel, also £29.00 for 500ml, contains arnica and is designed to be massaged in over tendons and muscles as part of a longer cool-down. Cool Clay, £45.00 for 2500g, is the tub of Dead Sea salt and arnica clay you plaster on and leave overnight under a bandage or paper.

A typical routine is Ice Gel or Phlo Gel straight after work and Cool Clay overnight after a hard day. None of these is a substitute for veterinary attention — if a leg is hot, swollen or your horse is lame, call your vet first.

Which Veredus shampoo is right for my horse?

Shampoo Sheen, from £17.00 for 500ml (with a 3000ml refill at £52.00), is the general-purpose one: it lathers, rinses cleanly and helps leave a glossy, tangle-free coat on any colour. Blue Snow Shampoo, £23.00 for 500ml, is the extra-strong stain-lifter for greys, whites and socks — the one that saves you before a show. Citro Shield Shampoo, £19.00 for 500ml, is a citronella wash for the fly months, so bath day doubles as part of your summer routine.

How do I keep flies off in summer?

Three Citro Shield products work together. The shampoo cleans, Citro Shield Spray from £28.00 for 1000ml covers the body, and Citro Shield Gel at £27.00 for 500ml is the one for ears, muzzle and other thin-skinned areas where a spray is unwelcome. Reapply after heavy sweating or rain, and always patch test on a small area first if your horse has reactive skin.

What about skin, tack and kit?

Neo Derma Cream, £29.00 for 250ml, is a collagen-based cream for scuffed skin, rubs and girth or saddle marks — helpful for everyday knocks, but any wound that is deep, spreading or not settling needs a vet. Sanix, £27.00 for 500ml, is the lotion for itchy, flaky patches and dandruff.

For equipment, Dirt Off Spray at £21.00 for 400ml lifts mud from boots and synthetic gear, and Revive Spray at £21.00 for 400ml finishes them with a non-staining, water-repellent layer. For leather, Curium Soap from £21.00 for 500ml cleans and Curium Balsam at £21.00 for 500ml feeds and softens with beeswax and avocado oil. Soap first, balsam second — that order is what keeps bridles supple.

Frequently asked questions

What is Veredus Biocareline?

Biocareline is the horse care line from Veredus, the brand that also makes horse boots and bandages. It covers hoof ointments, leg gels and clay, skin creams and lotions, shampoos, citronella fly products, equipment sprays and leather care. We stock 20 Biocareline products. In-stock prices run from £17.00 for Shampoo Sheen in 500ml to £52.00 for its 3000ml refill, with most products falling between £21.00 and £29.00.

Which Veredus hoof ointment is best for wet winter conditions?

Veredus Winter Hoof, £23.00 for 1000ml, is the one made for standing-in-mud months and includes thyme oil. Honey Hoof at the same price is the opposite job — it is for dry, brittle horn in summer. If your hooves are dry all year, Golden Hoof from £25.00 is a good everyday conditioner. Your farrier is the best person to confirm what your horse's feet actually need.

Do I need Ice Gel or Phlo Gel?

Both are £29.00 for 500ml. Ice Gel is the quick refreshing gel with calendula, smoothed on after work to help legs feel cool and comfortable. Phlo Gel contains arnica and is intended to be massaged in over tendons and muscles as part of a longer cool-down. Some yards keep both. Neither treats an injury — if a leg is hot, swollen or your horse is lame, call your vet.

Which shampoo works best on a grey horse?

Veredus Blue Snow Shampoo, £23.00 for 500ml, is the extra-strong option formulated to lift stable stains from greys, whites and white socks. For everyday washing on any colour, Shampoo Sheen from £17.00 for 500ml is gentler on the coat and more economical, with a 3000ml size at £52.00 if you wash several horses.

Can I use Biocareline products on a horse with sensitive skin?

Many riders do, and Sanix at £27.00 for 500ml is made specifically to soothe itchy, flaky skin. As with any topical product, patch test a small area first and leave it 24 hours before wider use. If your horse has broken skin, a persistent rash or a known allergy, check with your vet before applying anything new.

How do I clean and feed leather tack with Curium?

Use Curium Soap first, from £21.00 for 500ml, to lift grease and sweat. Once the leather is clean and almost dry, work in Curium Balsam, £21.00 for 500ml, which uses beeswax and avocado oil to nourish and water-repel. Doing it in that order stops you sealing dirt into the leather. Not sure what your tack needs? Get in touch and our team will help.
