Horseware LED Red Light Therapy for Horses
Horseware's LED red light therapy range is a set of cord-free, rechargeable wraps and pads that sit against your horse and shine red and near-infrared LED light onto a chosen area. The pieces are shaped for different parts of the body: leg wraps for the lower leg, hock boots for hocks, mini wraps for the pasterns, fetlocks and hooves, a poll cap for the head and poll, a large pad for the back and quarters, and a handheld wand for small or hard-to-reach spots. Just Horse Riders lists 14 products in this Horseware LED collection, starting at £199.95 for the wand.

Red light therapy is a supportive, drug-free tool that many riders add to a warm-up or cool-down routine. Horseware describes the purpose of the range simply as promoting general wellbeing — it is not a treatment for injury or lameness. If your horse is lame, sore, heat-filled or swollen, speak to your vet or physiotherapist first and use any therapy device alongside their advice, not instead of it.

How does LED red light therapy work on horses?
What the light actually does
An LED therapy device holds an array of small red and near-infrared LEDs close to the skin. Horseware uses 660nm red light, which targets the surface, alongside 850nm infrared, which penetrates deeper to reach soft tissue. Every unit in this range is cord free, running on a built-in or removable battery with a USB charger, so there is nothing to apply to the coat and no cable running to the horse. Each one has a 15-minute timer, three settings (red and infrared together, red only, or infrared only) and two modes (constant or pulse).
What it is not
Red light therapy does not cure, treat or diagnose anything. It is best thought of the same way you would think of a magnetic rug or a massage pad: a comfort and routine tool that supports the work your vet, physio or farrier is already doing. Any new heat, swelling, lameness or wound is a vet call, not a light-therapy session.
Pair or single — which should I buy?
Most of the Horseware LED pieces are sold both as a pair and individually, which is unusual and genuinely useful.
- Buy the pair if you want to do both front legs or both hocks in one session, or if more than one horse on the yard will use them. The Mini Wrap Quad (£555.95) is a set of four mini wraps, so it covers all four lower legs at once — the biggest time-saver in the range.
- Buy the single if you are consistently working on one leg or one hock. A single right hock boot or left hock boot is £269.95, roughly half the £521.95 pair price, and you can always add the second side later. The leg wrap works the same way — one product, ordered as Full Left or Full Right, at £285.95.
Where do the poll cap and the pad fit in?
The LED Red Light Therapy Poll Cap (£415.95) is the one piece shaped for the head, sitting over the poll with cutouts for the ears and 230 LEDs across a flexible neoprene outer — an area riders often want to include after a hard schooling session or a long journey. The LED Red Light Therapy Pad (£485.95) is the large, flexible neoprene panel with 320 LEDs, made for broad areas: back, sacroiliac, neck, shoulders, withers and hindquarters, where a shaped wrap will not sit. Between them they cover the areas the leg wraps and hock boots cannot reach.
Is the wand worth it?
At £199.95 the LED Red Light Therapy Wand is the lowest-priced way into the range and the most flexible: it is a handheld aluminium unit with a removable battery and USB charger, so you move it wherever you want rather than strapping a shaped wrap to a fixed area. Horseware suggests it for small or hard-to-reach areas and targeted acupressure points. The trade-off is that you have to stand there and do it, so it suits short, targeted sessions rather than leaving a wrap on both hocks while you muck out. Many riders start with the wand, then add a wrap or the pad once they know which area they keep coming back to.
Looking after the units
Treat them like any other piece of electronic yard kit. Charge them fully before first use, keep the LED face clean and free of mud so the light is not blocked, wipe rather than soak, and store them somewhere dry rather than in a damp tack-room corner. Always follow the charging times, session lengths and cleaning instructions supplied with your specific device — they differ between the wraps, the cap, the pad and the wand.
Frequently asked questions
What does Horseware LED red light therapy do for a horse?
It shines 660nm red and 850nm near-infrared LED light onto a chosen area. Horseware describes this as promoting general wellbeing, and most riders use it as a supportive, drug-free part of a warm-up or cool-down routine. It is a comfort and wellbeing tool rather than a treatment, and it does not diagnose, treat or cure injury. For lameness, heat, swelling or a wound, speak to your vet first.
How much does Horseware LED red light therapy cost?
In this collection prices start at £199.95 for the handheld LED Therapy Wand. Mini Wraps are £277.95 a pair, a single leg wrap is £285.95, single hock boots are £269.95, the Poll Cap is £415.95, the Therapy Pad is £485.95, Hock Boots are £521.95 a pair, and both the Leg Wraps Pair and the Mini Wrap Quad are £555.95.
Should I buy the pair or a single wrap?
Buy the pair if you want to cover both legs or both hocks in one session, or if several horses will share them. Buy a single if you are focused on one leg or one hock — a single hock boot is £269.95 against £521.95 for the pair, and you can add the second side later. For all four lower legs at once, the Mini Wrap Quad is £555.95.
Which product covers the back and quarters?
The Horseware LED Red Light Therapy Pad (£485.95). It is the large flexible neoprene panel with 320 LEDs, designed for broad areas such as the back, sacroiliac, neck, shoulders, withers and hindquarters, where the shaped leg wraps and hock boots will not sit. For the head and poll area, the Poll Cap (£415.95) is the one to look at.
Are the Horseware LED units cordless?
Yes — the wraps, boots, cap, pad and wand are all cord free, running on a battery with a USB charger (built in on the wraps, boots, cap and pad; removable on the wand), so there is no cable running to the horse. Charge fully before first use and follow the charging and session guidance supplied with your device, as it differs between models.
Can I return one if it is not right for my horse?
Yes. Everything in this collection comes with our 90-day returns policy, and UK delivery is free on orders over £50. If you are unsure which piece suits your horse before you order, get in touch and our team will help.
