The Equi-Sential Tail Bandage is a stretch tail wrap that gives extra protection to the horse's tail during travel and show preparation. It is best for riders who box up regularly for competitions, lessons or clinics, and for anyone preparing a tail for the show ring at home.
Applied over the dock, it helps prevent the tail rubbing against the partition, ramp or breeching bar of a lorry or trailer, and keeps a freshly washed or brushed tail flat and tidy while you finish the rest of your turnout.

How to Use
- Brush or lightly damp the tail so the hair lies flat against the dock.
- Unroll about 15cm of bandage and place it against the top of the dock, holding the loose end in place.
- Wrap once around the top of the dock, then fold the loose end down and bandage over it to lock it in position.
- Continue wrapping down the dock with even, firm-but-not-tight pressure, overlapping each turn by around half the bandage width.
- Stop at the end of the dock bone, work back up if bandage remains, and secure the ties flat so they sit snugly without digging in.
- To remove, grasp the bandage near the top with both hands and slide the whole wrap down and off the dock in one movement.

How long can a tail bandage stay on?
Only for short periods, such as a journey or while you finish preparing for a class. Remove it as soon as it is no longer needed and never leave a tail bandage on overnight or during turnout.
How tight should a tail bandage be?
Firm enough to stay put, but never tight. You should be able to slip a finger under the bandage. Too much pressure over the dock can damage the tail hair and cause discomfort, so re-do it if you are unsure.
Will it fit a pony or a cob?
Yes. A tail bandage is applied to the dock, so it suits ponies, cobs, horses and warmbloods alike. You simply use more or fewer turns depending on the length of the dock.
Can I use it to keep a plaited tail tidy?
Yes. Many riders bandage over a freshly washed, brushed or plaited tail while travelling and while finishing the mane and quarter marks, then remove it just before entering the ring.
How do I wash it?
Wash after use and allow to dry naturally away from radiators or direct heat, which helps the fibres keep their stretch and shape.
Is one bandage enough?
Many riders keep a spare in the lorry, as bandages are easily mislaid at shows and a clean, dry one is always useful for the journey home.
