Gatehouse Superflex 2.0 Short Back Body Protector

The Gatehouse Superflex 2.0 Short Back Body Protector is a BETA EN 13158:2018 Level 3 riding safety vest with a short back cut and a contoured, close-fitting shape. It is made for adult and child riders who want certified Level 3 protection in a slim, breathable protector for schooling, hacking, jumping and cross-country.

This second-generation Superflex uses a 24mm construction - a 12mm nitrile PVC impact foam outer over a 12mm EPP core - with stretch mesh-encapsulated blocks that flex as you ride. It is best for riders who have found bulkier protectors restrictive, and the short back keeps the profile neat behind the saddle.

How to Use

  1. Take chest, waist and over-shoulder measurements over the layers you normally ride in, then compare them to the size chart.
  2. Open the front zip fully and put the protector on like a waistcoat.
  3. Fasten the zip, then set the strap and buckle side adjustments so the protector sits level and close to the body.
  4. Adjust the elasticated side laces to fine-tune the fit through the waist without restricting your breathing.
  5. Check the coverage: the protector should cover the torso with no gap at the sides and should not ride up when you sit in the saddle.
  6. Have the fit confirmed by a BETA-trained fitter before you ride, and browse more protective wear in our body protectors collection.

FAQ

What safety standard does the Gatehouse Superflex 2.0 meet?
It is certified to BETA EN 13158:2018 Level 3, the level most commonly required for general riding and cross-country.

What is the difference between a short back and a standard back body protector?
A short back protector has a shorter rear panel, giving a more compact profile behind the saddle. It suits riders with a shorter back measurement or those who prefer less contact with the cantle.

How do I choose the right size?
Use chest, waist and over-shoulder measurements together rather than your usual clothing size, and measure over your normal riding layers. The buckle side adjustments and elasticated side laces then let you tailor the fit.

How thick is the protection?
The Superflex 2.0 is 24mm thick in total, made up of a 12mm nitrile PVC impact foam outer and a 12mm EPP core for shock absorption.

Is it suitable for hot weather?
Yes. The mesh outer fabric, heat-dissipating panels and mesh-encapsulated block construction encourage airflow, and the nylon and elastane lining feels comfortable next to the skin.

When should a body protector be replaced?
Replace it after any significant impact, and have the fit rechecked if your build changes or if you are fitting a growing child. Always be properly fitted by a BETA-trained fitter.
