- Support the hoof and use the metal pick from heel to toe, working away from yourself.
- Clear the grooves either side of the frog and around the shoe, taking care not to dig into the frog itself.
- Turn the tool over and brush the sole clean with the stiff bristles.
- Check the hoof and shoe for stones, cracks, heat or odour, then lower the hoof gently and repeat on each leg.
- Rinse the tool, shake out the bristles and leave it to dry before storing.
