Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the Sprenger HS Special Weymouth come in?
The Sprenger HS Special Weymouth is available in two sizes: 135mm and 145mm.
Why is the port on the HS Special Weymouth angled forward by 30°?
The 30° forward angle of the port is designed to reduce tongue pressure, making this bit particularly suitable for horses that are irritated by a cramped tongue.
How should I size the Sprenger HS Special Weymouth relative to the bridoon?
Because the horse's mouth is narrower where the curb chain sits, the Weymouth should usually be chosen 1/2 to 1 cm smaller than the bridoon. It is also important that the side parts of the curb sit close to the corners of the mouth.
How should the curb chain be fitted with the HS Special Weymouth?
The curb chain should be strapped so that the curb can be angled up to approximately 45°. Correct fitting ensures the bit works as intended and remains comfortable for the horse.
What is the cheek length on the Sprenger HS Special Weymouth, and how does it affect action?
The cheeks measure 7cm, which creates higher poll pressure. The leverage effect is also slightly delayed, giving the rider a more gradual response from the bit.
