ThinLine Cotton Square Dressage Saddle Pad

The ThinLine Cotton Square Dressage Pad is a cotton-quilted dressage square with a shock-absorbing ThinLine foam panel built into the topline. It is made for dressage and flatwork riders who want the protection of a half pad without the extra bulk of layering two pads under the saddle.

The thin, breathable, non-slip open-cell foam absorbs impact and dampens rider movement, helping the horse lift through the back and making the aids easier to read. It is best for riders schooling regularly, trainers sitting on several horses a day, and any horse that needs a little shock absorption without changing saddle balance.

Key Features

  • ThinLine foam: thin, shock-absorbing, non-slip and breathable open-cell foam that reduces impact and rider motion.
  • Topline panel: the ThinLine panel runs along the topline for targeted protection and to stop the foam shifting.
  • All-in-one build: single-unit quilted cotton pad, so no half pad slipping about on top.
  • Spine-free channel: contoured wither profile and open spine channel for clearance either side of the spine.
  • Trim-to-fit shims: use full, or cut into front, bridging or rear shims, up to three layers for fine-tuning.
  • Colours and cuts: black, white and navy, in dressage square and jumping options.
  • Long life: expected lifespan of 7-8 years with correct care.

How to Use

  1. Check your saddle seat size. The dressage square suits most saddles up to 18.5 inches, with a 23.5 inch spine.
  2. Place the pad on the horse's back and lift it up into the gullet so the spine-free channel sits clear of the spine.
  3. Set the saddle on top, checking the ThinLine topline panel lies evenly beneath the panels.
  4. If you are using shims, add them one layer at a time and ride in each stage before adding more, up to three layers.
  5. Trim shims to shape if needed, using them as full, front, bridging or rear shims.
  6. Wash cold in a front-loading washer with the ThinLine material inside out, spin, then line dry away from heat and sunlight.

FAQ

Do I still need a half pad with this?
No. The ThinLine foam is built into the pad as a topline panel, so it works as an all-in-one and removes the slip and bulk of a separate half pad.

What size saddle does the dressage square fit?
It has a 23.5 inch spine with a 22.5 inch to 21 inch flap length and is designed to fit most saddles up to 18.5 inches.

Will it change my saddle fit?
The foam is thin, and the trim-to-fit shims let you adjust balance in stages. If your saddle fit is borderline, have it assessed by a qualified saddle fitter before adding shims.

How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold in a front-loading washer with the ThinLine material inside out, spin to remove water and line dry away from heat and direct sunlight. White pads may be bleached.

How long does it last?
Expected lifespan is 7-8 years with correct care, and there is a one-year full replacement warranty when the care instructions are followed.

Can I use it for jumping too?
The same ThinLine construction is offered in a jumping cut. Choose the dressage square for long straight-cut flaps and the jumping cut for forward-cut flaps.
