ThinLine Western & Endurance Trim To Fit Saddle Shims

ThinLine Western & Endurance Trim To Fit Shims are open-cell foam inserts that slide into a ThinLine saddle pad to fine-tune saddle fit, adding targeted lift and cushioning without permanently altering the pad. They are best for riders correcting a minor asymmetry, adding lift at the front or rear, or filling a bridging gap on Western, endurance and general riding saddles.

Each packet contains two full-length shims - one for each side - which you trim to shape to create front, bridging or rear saddle fitting shims. The shims only are supplied; the saddle pad is not included.

Key Features

  • Full-length trim-to-fit design: cut with scissors or a box blade to create front, bridging or rear shims in the exact shape you need.
  • Open-cell foam: the same breathable, shock-absorbing foam used in ThinLine saddle pads.
  • 3/16" (4.8 mm) thick: consistent shock absorption and added support without bulk.
  • Non-slip and stable: shims stay put and will not shift during riding.
  • Free placement: they do not divide the pad pocket, so you can position them precisely.
  • Stackable: use up to three sets for customised lift as your horse changes shape.
  • Supplied as a pair: two shims per packet, one per side.
  • Long-lasting: designed to retain cushioning and performance over time.

How to Use

  1. Assess where your saddle needs support - a low front, a rear that sits down, or a bridging gap through the middle.
  2. Hold a shim against the pad pocket and mark the shape you want for a front, bridging or rear shim.
  3. Trim with scissors or a box blade, cutting conservatively - you can always remove more foam, but you cannot put it back.
  4. Slide the shims into the pad pockets, one on each side, and position them precisely where the lift is needed.
  5. Girth up and ride, then check the saddle balance and the sweat pattern afterwards.
  6. Adjust the trim, or add a second or third set, until the fit is even on both sides.

FAQ

Is the saddle pad included?
No. This listing is for the shims only. They are designed specifically for ThinLine saddle pads, which are sold separately.

How many shims do I get?
Each packet contains two full-length shims, one for each side of the saddle, so you can trim a matched pair.

How thick are the shims?
Each shim is 3/16" (4.8 mm) thick. You can stack up to three sets for more lift and support.

What colour will my shims be?
Shims may arrive in black, brown or white. In Endurance and Round Skirt pads the shim sits inside the pad, so the colour is not visible.

Will the shims move around while I ride?
No. The open-cell foam is non-slip and the shims do not divide the pad pocket, so they stay where you place them during riding.

Can shims replace a saddle fitting?
No. Shims are intended to fine-tune an already suitable saddle - for example correcting a small asymmetry or adding lift. If your saddle is significantly out of balance, have it checked by a qualified saddle fitter.
