The Waldhausen Anatomic Rubber Pelham is a two-rein curb bit with a high quality polyurethane mouthpiece, flexible shanks and an included curb chain. It is best for riders who want a softer, non-metal mouthpiece with the extra refinement of a Pelham for hacking, hunting, jumping and general schooling.
The anatomic shaping follows the contours of the horse's mouth so the 1.5cm mouthpiece sits over the tongue and bars without concentrating pressure in one spot. It can be ridden with double reins or with roundings and a single rein.

How to Use
- Measure your horse's current well-fitting bit from the inside of one cheek to the inside of the other to confirm the width you need.
- Attach the bit to your bridle cheekpieces using the upper (snaffle) rings.
- Fit the bridle so the mouthpiece rests comfortably in the corners of the mouth without excessive wrinkling.
- Attach the included curb chain to the curb hooks and twist it flat so it lies smoothly in the chin groove.
- Attach two reins - snaffle rein to the upper ring, curb rein to the lower ring - or fit leather roundings if you prefer a single rein.
- Rinse the mouthpiece in clean water after riding, dry it and check the polyurethane for chew marks or splits.

What size Pelham bit do I need?
Measure an existing bit that fits well from the inside of one ring or cheek to the inside of the other. The new bit should allow roughly 3-5mm clearance either side of the lips. Ordering the wrong width is the most common reason bits are returned, so measure before buying rather than guessing between pony, cob and full.
Is a rubber Pelham softer than a metal one?
The polyurethane mouthpiece is softer against the mouth than metal and is often chosen for horses that dislike a metal bit. The action of the bit still depends on the rider's hands, the curb chain adjustment and the leverage of the cheeks.
