How to Use

1. Approach the alpaca calmly and slip the noseband over the muzzle, keeping the halter high on the bridge of the nose.
2. Bring the headpiece up behind the ears and fasten it so it sits snugly without pinching.
3. Adjust the noseband so it rests close to the bony part of the nose, not down on the soft cartilage.
4. Check you can slip a finger under the straps and that the animal can breathe and chew freely.
5. Attach a lead rope and lead from the side, allowing the animal to move its head naturally.
6. Remove the halter after handling and never leave it on an unsupervised animal.

Will this halter fit any alpaca?
It is multi-adjustable, so it can be set to suit a range of head shapes. Alpacas vary considerably between youngsters, females and large males, so always fit and check before turning to handling work, and measure your animal's nose and head circumference if you are unsure.

Why does an alpaca halter need to sit high on the nose?
Alpacas have a short nasal bone and breathe only through the nose. If the noseband slips down onto the soft cartilage it can restrict airflow, so the noseband must stay high and close to the bony part of the face.

Can I use a horse headcollar on my alpaca instead?
It is not advised. Horse headcollars are cut for a longer, broader head and tend to sit too low on an alpaca's nose, which is why a purpose-made alpaca halter such as this one is the safer choice.
